Will there be a Public Holiday in Pakistan on September 6?

top-news

September 6, which is observed as National Defence Day in Pakistan, is generating significant attention on social media regarding whether it will be a public holiday this year.

Traditionally held on a Friday, National Defence Day commemorates Pakistan’s military achievements, particularly the country's defense efforts during the 1965 war with India.

According to the Federal Cabinet Division's notification for public holidays this year, September 6 is not officially designated as a public holiday in Pakistan.

However, there is speculation that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif might declare it a public holiday, following a precedent set earlier this year when a holiday was announced on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer.

Meanwhile, the country will observe a public holiday for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The exact date for this holiday will be confirmed after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today to sight the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal.
